Robert Paul Devenny, 72, of Elyria passed away on January 3, 2026 at the Life Care Center of Elyria due to natural causes.
Born on August 21, 1953, Robert was the son of Robert Guthrie Devenny Jr. and Dorothy Theresa Devenny (nee-Hick) both of whom preceded him in death.
Robert graduated from North Allegany High School in 1971 and served in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1975. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Fine Arts from the University of Pittsburgh in 1984, followed by a Master’s Degree in Information Security from Eastern Michigan University in 1996. He devoted more than 26 years to civil government service, completing a total of 30 years of government service when combined with his time in the Navy.
On October 27, 1984, Robert married Ann Mary Justavich. Their marriage of 41 years was a devoted partnership marked by shred values, dedication to their children, and steadfast commitment.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Mary Devenny; daughter, Alexis Ann Devenny and her husband Gregory Blough; son, Robert Howard Devenny; and siblings, Howard Devenny, Katherine Hunter and Louise Loscar, and their families.
Robert was a lifelong science fiction enthusiast, with a particular fondness for Star Trek, Dune, and Stargate, and a preference for thoughtful science fiction. He was an accomplished artist, most often working in paint, though equally skilled in drawing and woodworking. His creative work was deeply personal, typically shared only with family and friends. He also took great satisfaction in renovating and improving his homes, approaching each project with care, precision, and insistence of doing things properly.
He was passionate about politics, art and ideas, and was known for his sharp wit and curmudgeonly humor.
In accordance to his wishes, no services will be held.
He is remembered with love and respect by his family, whom he devoted his life to ensuring would live long and prosper. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elyria.
