Our Team


Dick has been an Ohio licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 50 years. He
served his apprenticeship at Higgins Funeral Home in Youngstown. In 1972 he returned
to his hometown, North Ridgeville, and purchased Goldcamp Funeral Home in Elyria. In
1989, Dick purchased Wainwright Funeral Home, which today is known as Laubenthal
Mercado Funeral Home.
Dick is a dedicated member of Elyria Noon Rotary, Elks Lodge, Polish Club, and the
Senior Fellowship Club. He resides in North Ridgeville with his wife, Chris, and is still
very involved in all aspects of funeral service.


Tom is 1979 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School. After graduating high school, Tom
attended Lorain County Community College.
He served his funeral director
apprenticeship under his father, Dick, and became an Ohio Licensed Funeral Director in
1987. In 1988, Tom joined his father in the ownership of the funeral home. Today,
Tom’s primary focus is providing his decades of funeral service experience in serving
families in their time of need.


Phil is a 1980 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School. After graduating, Phil proudly
served his country in the Ohio National Guard as a Combat Medic. He attended Xavier
University and graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1986. He
has worked in both corporate and independent funeral homes until his partnership with
the Laubenthal family in 2007. Phil is involved and dedicated in all aspects of funeral
service; especially with the day-to-day operations of the funeral home. He resides in
Elyria with his wife, Angela and his two children


Ben is a 1998 graduate of North Olmsted High School. After graduation, he joined the
family printing business until 2018. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cuyahoga
Community College in 2019 and Summa Cum Laude from the Cincinnati College of
Mortuary Science in 2021. Ben served his apprenticeship under Phil Mercado and
became an Ohio Licensed Funeral Director in 2022. He is a member of Our Lady
Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton and resides in his hometown, North
Olmsted.


Bill grew up in North Ridgeville and is the younger brother of Dick. After graduating high
school in 196, he joined his father in the family business Laubenthal Milk Cartage. Bill is
an integral part of the team and assists the funeral home with visitations, services, and
driving the hearse. Bill still resides in his hometown with his wife, Janet
