Merlin "Joe" Dyer of Elyria passed away on Sunday May 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army. Joe was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on September 16, 1935 and later moved to Ohio. Joe was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters Kimberly Burns (Perry) and Brenda Hodge; his grandson, Zachary Burns (Jordan); and his great-grandson, August Burns.
He is preceded in death by his father, Mark Dyer; his mother Carolyn Tite; his brother Robert Dyer (Janice); his stepmother Irma Dyer; and his longtime companion Sara Jensen. He is also preceded in death in January by his former wife, Roberta Wysocky, although divorced, had remained good friends.
Joe was a loving and dedicated family man who treasured the time he spent with those he loved. He enjoyed golfing and bowling, and he was his happiest when he was tinkering with something, always keeping his hands and mind busy. Whether fixing, building, or improving things, Joe had a knack for making things work and leaving his personal touch behind.
He will be remembered for his caring heart, his sense of humor, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends. His memory will live in the many lives he touched.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at the Laubenthal
Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria. Interment will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon. Please meet inside the entrance of the cemetery.
