Paul L Smith, age 79, passed away peacefully in his home on April 30, 2026. He was born in Elyria, Ohio, on October 6, 1946, to Richard and Betty (Rader) Smith. Paul was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. He carried the values of discipline and integrity he learned in the service throughout his entire life. Following his military service, Paul enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with the railroad, from which he eventually retired.
More than his professional achievements, Paul found his greatest joy and purpose in his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years Colleen, his children Eric Smith, Marsi Smith, Nikole Smith (Robert), Chad (Heather) Smith, Kati (Josh) Robinson and Stephanie (Jeff) Boledovic. Grandchildren: Paul Smith, Taylor Smith, Andrew Eggeman, Jacob (Beth) Eggeman, Mallory (LeAnn) Pickworth, Ainsley Smith, Luke Smith, Kyle Smith, Macie Robinson, Maddox Robinson, Alexis Boledovic, Zachary (Bree) Boledovic, Ashley Boledovic and 5 great grandchildren. Brother: Roy Smith. Our family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Mike Hornby, a devoted neighbor who became like a son to Paul. Your presence, care, and compassion enriched their life and will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Jeanne McDonald Smith, daughter in law Tammy Smith, and grandson Joseph Pratt. Siblings: Terry, Pam and Jim.
Paul walked his earthly journey with a deep, abiding faith as he served as a faithful member at LaGrange Global Methodist Church. He now rests in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father, confident in the promise of eternal peace. He will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at LaGrange Global Methodist Church 105 W Main St, Lagrange, OH 44050. Pastor David Smithey will officiate. The family will greet people in the Family Life Center from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service at 12 noon. Memorial gifts can be made to LaGrange Global Methodist Church.
He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. SEMPER FI
