Obituary for Wendell Clifton Beal

Wendell Clifton Beal, 88, of Elyria passed away Sunday February 22, 2015 at The Gardens at Avon Oaks in Avon. Wendell and his twin brother were born to the late Irvin H. and Mae M. (nee-Blume) Beal in Ellerslie, MD. Wendell retired from the General Motors Company, Elyria in 1986 after nearly 35 years of service. He was the benefits representative for the U.A.W. Local 780 employees for many years as well as holding many offices in the 780 Local including past-president of the Retiree's Chapter. He served in the United States Navy during W.W. II on the USS Long Island in the Pacific Theater. His interests included the U.A.W., city politics, golf, ice skating, yard work and taking walks. Preceding him in death was the love of his life and wife of more than 62 years Kathleen (Nee-Oster), brother, Troy Beal, half brother, Bob Wakefoose and half sister, Winifred (nee-Wakefoose) Dudley. Survivors include his daughters, Wendy (Jim) Mertz of Elyria and Erin (Ed) Link of Amherst; grandchildren, Julie (Tjemmes) Painter of Louisville, KY., Megan Link of Toledo, OH. And Ethan Link of Amherst; twin brother, Ozwald Beal of Hyattsville, MD.; sister, Zelma Kelly of Ellerslie, MD.; sister-in laws, Betty Beal and Carrie Pfitzenmayer as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Mindi Husk and the caring staff at Avon Oaks for being part of our family during our father's stay in their facility. The family will receive friends on Wednesday 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services and Burial will be in Maryland at a later date. In liue of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may me expressed at
