Obituary for Kenneth Paul Rothgery

Kenneth Paul Rothgery 82, of Elyria passed away at home on Saturday March 10, 2018 following a short illness. He was born December 31, 1935 in Elyria where he was a lifelong resident. Ken served in the U.S. Army, and was a 1953 Elyria Catholic High School graduate. He was a practicing Lorain County attorney for nearly fifty years, and was the founder and managing partner of Rothgery and Associates Law Firm. Ken was a past president of The Lorain County Legal Aid Society, founder and past president of The Lorain County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He was a former board member of The Lorain County Historical Society, and was a Delegate at the 1992 and 1996 Democratic National Convention. He was instrumental in brokering peace during the 1975 Elyria riots, and a was a founding member of the Elyria Catholic High School Endowment Fund. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty nine years; Karen (nee: Morrison), two daughters; Ann Marie Stambol (Dave), Gina Massey, two sons; The Honorable Judge Christopher Rothgery (Linda), Eric Rothgery (Kim). Additional survivors include twelve grandchildren; Megan, Mimi, Tory, Grace, Lucy, Marissa, Sarah, Michaela, Maddy, Ally, Mari, Kimberly, a sister; Mary Andrewski (Bob), a brother; Donald Rothgery (Marcia). Ken was preceded in death by his parents; Sylvester "Bus", and Leona (nee: Laubenthal) Rothgery, a son; Michael Rothgery, and three sisters; Alice Bott-Weber, Laurette Murray, Joan Reaser. The family will receive friends from 1-5 PM Sunday March 18, 2018 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday March 19, 2018 at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave. Elyria. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH) The Reverend Father Alan Laubenthal and The Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick, Pastor will concelebrate. Burial will be private.
