Obituary for James C. "Carl" Collum

James Carlton "Carl" Collum 80, of Elyria passed away Saturday December 1, 2018 at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake following a long illness. He was born August 8, 1938 in Cullum County, AL. Carl was self employed ,and owned Cutrite Co. Inc for forty five years. He won many contests for The Cleveland Home Builders Association for his excellent trim work. Carl was a member of Ohio and Vicinity Regional Council of Carpenters Locals #305,#735,#940. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #552. Carl loved to play with his grandchildren; he was their favorite toy! He enjoyed going to his granddaughters basketball games, fishing, hunting, playing cards, watching demolition derbies, cats and dogs. His sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include a daughter; Gayle Dial (Dallas), a son; Edward Collum, a step daughter; Lari Masters. four step sons; David Masters(Sharon), Michael Masters(Amy), Ronald Masters (Teresa), Patrick Masters(April), a sister; Virginia Johnson, twenty two grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of forty four years; Iva Masters (nee: Grant), a son; Kenneth Collum, his parents; Samuel and Florence (nee: Roden) Collum, four sisters; Helen Young, Vela Booth, Nellie Holmes, Mary Masters, and three brothers; William, Paul, Johnie Collum. A Celebration of Carl's life will be 5:00 PM Tuesday December 11, 2018 at Ruby's Banquet Hall 36709 Royalton Rd. (Rt. 82) in Grafton, where his family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until time of services. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elyria (440)322-4626.
