Obituary for Dean Rummery

Dean Rummery passed from this life and went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2021. He was born on November 15, 1936, in Elyria, Ohio. Dean received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in marketing and economics from Baldwin Wallace University. Dean’s life was a blend of music and banking. He began his musical activities in High School playing various stringed instruments in dance bands and singing in the choirs. He was a member of the West Shore Chorale and the West Shore Pops. Dean studied voice at both Baldwin Wallace University and the Cleveland Institute of Music. He often appeared as bass soloist in major classical and holiday works & as a recitalist at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He also took part in the Warwick International Choral Festival in Warwick, England. Dean was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and in its choir for over 50 yrs. & served as bass soloist and section leader in the choir. He most recently was a member of Elyria First United Methodist Church. After serving in the United States Army at Fort Knox in the court judge advocate section, Dean began a banking career at the Cleveland Trust Company. He became head of the examination division & was responsible for reviewing the commercial loan portfolios of all the Cleveland Trust officers. Upon retiring from banking he became a financial planner with the John Hancock Company. He was a member of the American Institute of Banking, the Bank Administration Institute & Robert Morris Associates, a national organization of commercial bank lending & credit officers. He had also been a member of Lakewood Masonic Lodge # 601. Dean was a world traveler, especially enjoying cruises in the Mediterranean & South America, trips to Australia & China. Dean is survived by his wife of 63 yrs., Carolyn (Madara) Rummery, father-in-law Ralph G. Smith; sons, Douglas (Laura) Rummery & Brian (Cynthia) Rummery; grandchildren Christina (Josh) Agapito, Katie Rummery, Brigitte Rummery, Ariel Lawrence & Leland (Sadie) Messaro; 6 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at Elyria First United Methodist Church, 315 Third St. Elyria, on Saturday, July 24th. Visitation will be at 12 noon in the Church Parlor followed by the services at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary with Pastor W. Kent Joy officiating. Burial Private. Memorial contributions in Dean’s memory can be made to Elyria First United Methodist Church or Lakewood United Methodist Church.15700 Detroit Rd. Lakewood, Oh.
