Obituary for Alice Louise Yunker

Alice Louise (Reisinger) Yunker, RN, 91, of Carlisle Township passed away in her sleep due to the COVID-19 virus on Monday, June 22, 2020, at the Forum in Columbus, Ohio. She had resided in her independent apartment for one year and her daughter, Karen, was able to be with her the last 5 days taking care of her. She was born May 25, 1929 in Elyria, Ohio to Louis and Lucile (Bennett) Reisinger. Alice was a member of St. Mary Church Elyria and recently, St. Timothy in Columbus. She grew up on a dairy farm in Spencer, Ohio, doing chores before and after school. She graduated in 1947 from Spencer High School as the Valedictorian of 16 graduates. She enjoyed many all-alumni reunions over the years. She received a scholarship to attend nursing school at M.B. Johnson School of Nursing in Elyria, graduating in 1950. Alice worked at Berea Hospital and at Naval Hospitals where her husband, Don, was stationed. She was a member of and held various officer positions in the St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society and the Carlisle Twp. Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the United Polish Club Ladies Auxiliary. She served on the PTA and as a home room mother at St. Mary School during the years when her 5 children were in elementary school. She bowled in several leagues in the Elyria area. She resumed working as an RN at Elyria Memorial Hospital when her youngest child started kindergarten, in, 1966, continuing through 1984. She and Don managed the LaPorte apartments for 30 years. Alice was a gardener, flower lover, canner of produce, wonderful cook, crossword puzzle lover, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune follower, Scrabble and card player. She always had a fondness for dogs and cats and even the goats that she and Don had for a period of time. She always looked forward to the Lorain County Fair, especially enjoying the draft horse pulls which were reminiscent of growing up on a farm. She enjoyed cruising with family, September Song camping at Camp Christopher, visiting Florida in the winter, and eating a fresh tomato from her garden. Alice married Donald Clifford Yunker on December 29, 1951 in St. Patrick Church, Wellington. They lived together in TN, CA, and settled on Yunker Ct. in 1954 in houses that C. Don built. She has 5 surviving children: Karen (Karl) Weber of Elyria, Kenneth (Penny) of Marysville, OH., Dr. Douglas (Jennifer) of Upper Arlington,OH., Eileen (Gerald) Albright of Worthington, OH. And Kathryn (Lewis) Brewer of Charleston, WV. She is also a grandmother of 11, Kyle (Megan) Weber of Powell, OH, Kevin Weber of Elyria, Adam Yunker of Noblesville, IN., Jessica (Kyle) Wunderlich of Lebanon, OH., Alicia (Jacob) Doran of Hilliard, OH., Janelle (Tyson) Vollrath of Marysville, OH., Christopher (Emily) Yunker of Upper Arlington, OH., Jacqueline Yunker of Dallas, TX., Bethany Yunker of Columbus, OH., Carolyn (Nathanial) Hackner of Clermont, FL. And Emily (Aaron) Corley of Colorado Springs, CO. She has 12 great-grandchildren. Alice is survived by sisters-in-law, Brenda Reisinger. Loretta Myers, and Betty Blair, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, on March 2, 2011, her parents, her brothers,Francis and David Reisinger, and her sister, Dotty Feron, Alice passed on Dotty’s birthday. There will be a rosary at St. Mary Catholic Church on July 11, 2020 at 9:45 AM in the Weigand room, followed by visitation with the family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11: 00 AM in St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave. Elyria, (per CDC all social distancing guidelines will apply). MASKS ARE REQUIRED. Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick pastor will be the Celebrant, known by Alice his whole life.. Please contact a family member for live stream viewing options. A private Burial will be at LaPorte Cemetery, Butternut Ridge Rd., Carlisle Twp. A special thank you to Marcia Fuchs for the friendship she shared with Mom while being swim buddies at the Kendall. Arrangements were entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elyria, 440-322-4626. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Alice’s name may be given to St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave. Elyria, OH. 44035; Blessing House, 5440 Grove Ave., Lorain, OH. 44055; or, a charity of Donor’s choice.
