Susan J. (Lauer) Wallace

Susan J. Wallace (nee: Lauer), age 66, of Grafton, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023 at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center. Susan was born on June 25, 1956 to parents; Warren and Shirley (nee: Hood) in Carlisle Township, OH. She attended Keystone Schools from grades 1 – 12. After that, she attended MB Johnson School of Nursing Elyria Memorial Hospital and Lorain County Community College in 1985. Susan also attended Bowling Green University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Susan went on to receive her Master’s degree from Kent State University in Vocation Education. She married her sweetheart, Robert Wallace, in 1979. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Elyria Memorial Hospital in the  Cardiac Intensive Care and the Emergency Room. Susan was also a substitute teacher at the Lorain County JVS for the Health Programs and was the school nurse. In 1998, she became a full time teacher for Diversified Health Occupations program. In 2001, the program name was changed to the Allied Health Program and she continued to teach until 2021 when she retired after 24 years of service. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Robert; sister, Carole Stauffer; brother-in-law, Ray Stauffer; niece, Jennie; great niece, Bella Stauffer; and nephew, Warren Stauffer. Susan is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Martin Lauer. Susan loved people and animals. She was a wonderful wife, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, nurse, teacher, and wonderful friend. She and Robert enjoyed boating with their many friends, going out to concerts, and enjoyed dinners out. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 4:00 PM – 7 PM at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Susan’s name can be sent to the Friendship APL 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
