Obituary

Maureen (Burns) Davie, 85, of Elyria passed away peacefully February 12, 2023 at home surrounded by family.  She was born in Beaver Falls, PA in 1937.  Maureen graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1956.  From there she went onto attain her BA in teaching from the Indiana University in Pennsylvania (IUPA) in 1959.  After receiving here BA she pursued her Masters in Teaching at the University of Pittsburgh, which she received in 1960.

Maureen met her husband, Peter, while on a visit to Ohio.  They would later marry and settle in Elyria in 1964.  She was hired with the Elyria City Schools as Title I reading teacher where she would teach for 32 years.  During her years with the Elyria City schools she met and made many friends in the teaching community whose friendships would endure long after her retirement.

Maureen was very active in the community and was a member of a variety of social and professional clubs.  She enjoyed planning and taking part in events and activities as well as volunteering.  She had a strong sense of responsibility to each club she was active in by volunteering to take on various officer roles in the clubs where she was needed.   She was a member of AAUW where she served on the board in several positions thru the years.  She and Peter belonged to the Antique Automobile Club of America – Commodore Perry Chapter where they would participate in many car tours.  Maureen was an active member in here knitting club – Knitwhits, making baby beanies for children in chemo.

Maureen was a devout Roman Catholic Christian as she was an active member at St Vincent DePaul in Lorain, OH.  Serving on various committees throughout the years and volunteering in the cafeteria for the weekly Bingo nights.  She raised her children with a strong Christian background.

Maureen enjoyed outdoor activities with her children while spending many summer days at the pool with them.  She was an avid gardener, enjoying the many varieties and colorful flowers she grew.  She was a dedicated Mother, Wife, Daughter, Aunt and Friend.

Maureen will be forever loved and will be missed by her family and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents James & Catherine Burns and her brother James Burns.  She is survived by her husband Peter, children Kara (Ron) Kintz, Jim (Deeon) Davie, grandchildren Nathan and Sabrina Kintz, Andrew and Lauren Davie. The family will receive friends 1-4 PM Sunday February 19, 2023 at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria (440)322-4626. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday February 20, 2023 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church 41295 North Ridge Rd. Elyria. (Please meet at church)  The Reverend Father Neil G. Walters, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be private. Maureen's family would like to give special thanks to her caregiver, Mavis, Griswold Homecare and the Hospice of The Western Reserve.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of The Western Reserve 2173 North Ridge Rd.
