Matilda "Tillie" (Kostyn) Bolash

Matilda Helen “Tillie” Bolash, 100, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 30, 2023 following a short illness. She was born December 16, 1922 in Lorain to parents, John and Esther Kostyn. She was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1941-A, and also Lorain Business College. She worked for 18 years as a drafts women (one of the first in the field) drawing blueprints at Western Automatic (now Moen) and furnace maker American Standard. She retired to become a stay-at-home mom with the birth of her son in 1959. She enjoyed almost daily rounds of golf with her husband, achieving a hole-in-one in 1983. A lap pool swimmer well into her 80’s, she recorded almost 2000 miles swam. She was an avid reader of novels and newspapers and enjoyed her crossword puzzles, daily walks in the neighborhood, and an evening glass of white wine while watching Guardians baseball. She was a lifelong Christian, and a member of the Hungarian Reform Church in Lorain before transferring to the Magyar United Church of Christ in Elyria (now Community of Faith UCC). She was proud of her heritage and could speak fluent Hungarian. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joseph S. Bolash in 1999; parents, John and Esther Kostyn, and brothers, Sidney, John and Gilbert. She is survived by her son, Joseph (Robin) of Grafton; grandchildren, Cody Gunselman and Adam Gunselman, a niece and nephew and her unofficial therapy dog Bart, aka “baby”. The family would like to thank the entire staffs of; The Abbewood, FirstLight Home Care, Life Care Center of Elyria, and Crossroads Hospice for their compassion and care. Arrangements are being handled by the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home of Elyria. A private family burial was held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park. A long life well lived.
