Mary Blanche Shipp (nee: Baker) 90, of Elyria passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday November 1, 2023. She was born July 26, 1933 in Lake Lynn, PA. Blanche was a 1951 Point Marion High School graduate and was her Senior Class President. She married Ewing O. “Pete” Shipp on August 4, 1951. In 1959, they moved to Elyria where they raised their family. Blanche was active in neighborhood and school activities. She loved being a part of her children’s lives. The home she and Pete created was one of welcome and love to all. Blanche eventually went to work at St. Agnes School and then on to Elyria City Schools where she worked as a lunchroom monitor and eventually as a teacher’s aide in special needs classrooms. Blanche loved being a wife, a mother, and a friend. Survivors include a son; Allen L. Shipp (Linda Haas) of Rocky River, two daughters; Diane L. Shipp of South Carolina, Peggy M. Stickney (Joseph) of Florida. Additional survivors include eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, three sisters; Esther Baker, Janet Hatch, Wendy Baker, four brothers; Clyde (Helena), Ralph, Wayne, and Danny (Mary Ann) and numerous nieces and nephews. Blanche was preceded in death by her husband; Ewing O. “Pete”, a son; David Ewing, her parents; Daniel A. and Nellie C. (nee: Lyons) Baker, three sisters; Annabelle, Evelyn, and Donna, five brothers; Donald, Paul, Ben, Jerry, and Melvin. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Friday, December 1, 2023 at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria (440) 322-4626 where funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Pastor Rick Canfield will officiate. A private burial service will be at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
