Kathy Matheson, (nee-Prentice), 73, of Grafton passed away passed away Friday November 11, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born June 16, 1949, in Elyria to Leland H. Sr. and Anne Prentice. Kathy was a 1967 graduate of Midview High School and a 1971 graduate of Kent State University. She worked for 41 years as an Elementary School teacher at Midview Local Schools, retiring in 2012. Kathy’s passion was teaching and impacting the lives of all her students. A lifelong Grafton resident, Kathy was a compassionate and generous person, contributing to many charities throughout her life. She enjoyed attending Cleveland Guardians games with her sons, playing Yahtzee, attending Bunco Club, shopping and sharing meals with her Nancy’s Restaurant family. Above all Kathy cherished time with family including being a caregiver for her beloved mother and granddaughter. Kathy is survived by her sons, Kevin (Barb) Matheson and Gregory (Erin) Matheson; granddaughter, Isabella Matheson; sister-in-law, Rita Prentice; nephews, Mark Prentice and Jeff Prentice. Kathy was preceded in death By her parents, Leland Sr. and Anne Prentice and brother, Leland Prentice Jr.. Family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday November 18, 2022 at Washington Avenue Christian Church, 301 Washington Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Nathan Russell, pastor, will Officiate. Burial will follow at Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
