June Marie Essenmacher, 91, of Elyria passed away peacefully at her home on Friday November 17, 2023 surrounded by her family. June was born in Harbor Beach, Michigan on February 14, 1932 to Harriet and Paul Pionk. She was the oldest of five children. She graduated from Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic High School. June married Cliff Essenmacher on February 23, 1952 and they shared 71 wonderful years together. June was a loving wife and mother of five children. She shared the joy as her family grew to include 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. For nearly 60 years, she was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Elyria. The Altar and Rosary Society was one of the committees in which she cherished being a member. She was a lifetime member of the Elyria United Polish Club and the American Legion. Her hands were rarely still. Cooking, quilting, sewing and crocheting were just a few of the activities that kept her busy. She even crocheted over 200 baptismal shawls for the church. In her spare time June enjoyed traveling, golf, playing bridge and the occasional bingo game. Survivors include her husband, Cliff; children, Brian (Patricia), Renee Handyside (John), Sandy Cherpak (Robert), Gerald, daughter-in-law, Denise; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Pionk; sister-in-law, Betty Siemen. She was preceded in death by her son, Eric; parents, Harriet and Paul Pionk; in-laws, Nora and Norman Essenmacher; siblings, Edward Pionk, Barbara Booms and Pauline Ginther. The family will receive friends 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday November 26, 2023 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday November 27, 2023 at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. Please meet at church. The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Private inurnment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
