John R. Palmer, 83, of Elyria passed away Monday May 30, 2022 at the Life Care Center of Elyria following a brief illness. He was born January 15, 1939 in Lakewood and was an Elyria resident for most of his life. John was employed at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 42 as a Pipefitter for 40 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the LaPorte United Methodist Church, served as an Officer and Trustee for the Local 42 as well as serving on the Pension and Retirement Committee. He was also a 1956 Elyria High School graduate. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Peggy (nee-Stauffer); daughter, Julie (Mark) Dumonthier; son, Jason Palmer; granddaughter, Brooke. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Palmer. The family will receive friends on Friday June 3, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Services at 1:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Rev. William Baker, Pastor of LaPorte United Methodist Church will Officiate. Burial will be at LaPorte Cemetery.
