John A. Diedrick, 88, of Elyria passed away Saturday August 26, 2023 at his home following a brief illness. He was born January 12, 1935 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. John was employed at United States Steel in Lorain for many years, retiring from the maintenance department in 1990. He served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. John was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, the Elyria United Polish Club and was a lifetime member of both AMVETS Post 32 in Elyria and the Grafton V.F.W. Post 3341. He also enjoyed gardening. Survivors include his daughters, June (George) Miller, Molly Cerra (Tony-deceased) and Tammy (Bill) Bohnert; sons, Dale (Debbie) Diedrick, Franklin (Suzanne) Diedrick, Jay Diedrick and Patrick (Leslie) Diedrick; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom and Lee Diedrick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Flodia (nee-Smith), granddaughter, Tracy and a sister, Mary Jane Eldridge. The family will receive friends Thursday 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday September 1, 2023 at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick will be the Celebrant. Christian Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Blessing House 6115 Olivet Ave. Elyria, OH. 44035.
