James “Jim” Baker, age 83, of Amherst, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Mercy Health Hospital in Lorain. He was born on October 3, 1938 in Sebring, Ohio to James and Marceline Baker (nee: Rush). Jim was a 1956 Elyria High School graduate. He proudly served his country in the US Army before marrying his sweetheart, Claudia Springer, on October 9, 1965. He spent his career working in the banking industry, spending most of it working for National City Bank as a bank supervisor. Jim was a member of Elmer Johnson Post #118 of the American Legion - Amherst. He was also a member of LaPorte United Methodist Church and was on the Finance and SPRC committees and participated in several church mission trips. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Audra (John) Millhouse; brother, William; grandchildren; James (Taylor) and Hanna Millhouse; great-grandson, Lucas. Jim is preceded in death by sisters; Gladys, Virginia, and Betty; brothers, Robert, Ivan, and Gary. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at LaPorte United Methodist Church 2071 Grafton Road in Elyria with Pastor William Baker officiating. A private graveside service will be held Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst. Family suggests memorial contributions be sent to LaPorte United Methodist Church in Elyria.
