James Lowell Sturgill Sr.

James Lowell Sturgill Sr. 82 of LaGrange, Ohio peacefully entered the kingdom of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ following a lengthy illness on March 06, 2023, at 9:18 PM. He was born December 28, 1940, son of the late Henry Green Sr. and Lena Adkins Sturgill. Jim worked in drywall construction and owned and operated Sturgill’s Drywall, Sturgill’s Stucco and Sturgill Apartment Management since the 1960’s. During his life Jim was a member, Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Bethel Baptist Church in Elyria, Ohio. Jim loved spending time with his grandsons and working in his garden and yard, enjoyed talking to everyone, watching University of Kentucky basketball games, hunting, golfing, fishing, and trips to the cabin in Kentucky.

Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma R. (Hoover) Sturgill; son, James (Betty) Sturgill Jr; daughter, Dellena R. Fleck (the late Robert Fleck) of LaGrange, Ohio; five grandchildren, Logan, Tyler, Robert Fleck and Preston, Parker Sturgill; one great-grandchild, Greyson Fleck; two brothers, Rhondal (Sharon) Sturgill and Krandell (Carol) Sturgill of Bruin KY; One sister, Betty Ison (the late Dan Ison) of Bruin KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Robert Fleck; four brothers, Henry Sturgill Jr. Walter Sturgill, Clayton Sturgill, Franklin Dee Sturgill; sister, Doris (Sturgill) Bush.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Saturday March 11, 2023 at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria (440)322-4626 where funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday immediately following visitation. Pastor Ken Tucker will officiate. Interment will be held at River Road Cemetery in LaGrange, Ohio. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care given by Welcome Home, Oberlin, OH and New Life Hospice.
