Florceda Petcavage Obituary

Florceda Edith Petcavage (nee: DeChant), 92, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023, surrounded by her loving family in Centreville, VA. She was born October 8, 1930 and resided in Elyria most of her life. Florceda worked as a bank secretary for the former Lorain County Bank before retiring and working part-time at the East River Convenient Mart. Florceda, known affectionately as "Flo", was a woman of remarkable grace, strength, and generosity. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and cheering for the Cleveland baseball team. She was widely known as an avid ice cream aficionado.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She leaves behind three devoted daughters - Elizabeth Brown (James) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Lenora Given (Terry) of Centreville, VA, and Belinda Meier (Don) of Medina; a son, The Reverend Father Paschal Leonard Petcavage of Cleveland; and three sisters-in-law - Leona Petcavage of Massillon, Sister Margaret Petcavage, SSC of Chicago, IL, and Joyce DeChant of Sheffield. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Flo was preceded in death by her husband, Albert P. Petcavage; her children, Margaret Reyes and Richard Petcavage; her parents, Raymond F. and Agnes M. (nee: Kriebel) DeChant; and her siblings Harold DeChant of Sheffield, Gerald DeChant of Sheffield, Marcella Smith of Lagrange, and Donna Kerpics of Lawrenceville, GA., and a son in law: Don Frabotta.

Flo's faith was a constant source of comfort and inspiration throughout her life. She was quick to share her love of God and a "Hail Mary" with anyone in need. Her mantra of "we will manage" served as a guiding principle for her family, and her wit and wisdom were greatly appreciated by all who knew her. After seeing her smile, you were fast friends. She welcomed everyone into her home, was always eager to point them to the candy dish, and waved goodbye from the window when they left.

The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 4-7 PM at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria. Closing prayers will be held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at St. Mary Parish in Elyria. The Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick, Pastor, will officiate, and Flo's son, The Reverend Father Paschal Leonard Petcavage, will serve as the concelebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria.
