Etta Jane (Tildes) Szczepanski

Etta Jane Szczepanski, (nee-Tildes), 88, of Eaton Township gained her wings on Sunday morning  April 2, 2023 surrounded by her family following a short illness. Born to Clarence and Alta Tildes on November 30, 1934 Jane was a lifelong resident of Eaton Township. Jane was a 1952 graduate of Eaton High School. After graduation she worked at St. Vincent Charity Hospital. Jane met and fell in love with Eugene Szczepanski; they were wed on August 24, 1953. The mother of seven sons, Jane was a stay at home mother until the boys were old enough for her to start a new career as a school bus driver for Midview schools, retiring after 30 years of service. Jane also served as a charter member of the Eaton Township Rescue Service. Some of her greatest joys came from family, watching her grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren. Jane enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, as well as collecting cookie jars and shopping. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, sons Jeremy, James and Jeff, granddaughters, Kari and Elizabeth. Her husband of 69 years Gene joined her later that same day. Survivors include her sister, Lucille (Bob); sons, Jon (Cindy), Jay, Joel (Robin) and Jack; daughter-in-law, Roseanne; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday May 6, 2023 at the V.F.W. Post 1079, 500 South Abbe Rd., Elyria. Private inurnment will follow at a later date at Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Township.
