Arlene Joy Shank (nee: Shevock) 83, of Elyria went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly at University Hospitals Main Campus in Cleveland on Saturday September 2, 2023. She was born April 13, 1940 in Spangler, PA. Arlene had worked as a talented home decorator for Home Interiors for many years. She was a member of St. Jude Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years, worked with the Helping Hands Ministry and sang in the church choir. Arlene also loved her bible study group at Christ Church. Arlene was a past chairwoman for The Lorain County Cancer Society. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband at Tappan Square Park, as well as line dancing with her friends, time with family and friends, going out to eat and playing games. Arlene’s response to her family when they told her that they loved her was always “I love you more!” Survivors include her daughters; Debra Morgan of Euclid, Lisa Sooy (Ryan) of Elyria, Christina McCartney ( Michael-deceased) of Elyria, Theresa Karban of Elyria, her sons; John F. Shank Jr. (Lucia) of Elyria, Jim Shank (Mary) of Lorain, and Rick Shank of Elyria. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband; John Francis Shank Sr., her parents; Simon and Vera (nee: Lubert) Shevock, and a brother; Barry Shevock. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Thursday September 7, 2023 at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Friday September 8, 2023 at St. Jude Church 590 Poplar St. Elyria. The Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor Emeritus will be the Celebrant.
