William "Robert" Watkins 88 of Elyria passed away April 4, 2016 at his residence following a lengthy illness, and was an Elyria resident most of his life. He was born December 5 , 1927 in Morgantown, West Virginia. William worked for Carpenter's local 212 in Cleveland for 25 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a life time member of VFW post 1079 , Life member of Amvets post 32 and a member of American Legion post 12. William enjoyed working around the house being with family and his dog "Penny". William served his Country during WWII in the Navy Seabees. Survivors include his wife of 43 years Maxine (nee Jordan) , several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Fannie (nee Simpson) , sister Mary Schaffer , brother James. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Wednesday April 6, 2016 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge (at St. Rt. 57) 440-322-4626 , where funeral services will be held 10AM Thursday. Pastor Kevin Coleman of Community UMC , and Pastor George Schilz will co-officiate. Burial Resthaven Memory Gardens (Avon), where full military honors will be provided by VFW post 1079.
