William (Bill) E. Peter, 94, of Elyria, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 18, 2024 at St. Mary's of the Woods. He was born to John and Julia Peter on November 20, 1929 in Portage, Pennsylvania.
Bill moved to Elyria with his family when he was a young child. He attended Elyria Schools and graduated from Elyria High School in 1948. He was employed by Fisher Foods Companies and retired after 47 years.
He was very involved in the Magyar United Church of Christ, as the church elder, member of the consistory, and organizer of chicken paprikas and cabbage roll dinners. Upon the closure of his church, he joined Community of Faith UCC.
Bill was an avid gardener, fisherman and camper. If he wasn't working around his yard, you would find him spending time with his greatest joy; his family. He enjoyed vacationing every summer, going to his kids and grandkids sporting events, various school activities, or just picnicking in the backyard.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sherrie (Riemer); his children Kim Latsa (Scott) of Orlando FL, Debbie Betts (N Ridgeville), and Dave (Avon); 6 grandchildren - Jacob, Regan, Madisyn, Ryah, Natalie and Alex; sisters-in-law Sylvia Peter and Joyce Peters; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Julia Peter and siblings; John (Julia), Julius (Helen), Joe, Louis (Betty), Irene Horvath (Joe), Margaret Thomasko (Elmer), Robert and Franklin.
The family invites friends and loved ones to pay their respects Thursday, February 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home at 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Elyria.A service will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Community of Faith UCC, 9715 East River Street, Elyria.
