Captain William A. Cameron, 78, of Elyria passed away Friday December 6, 2019 at the Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital following a long illness. He was born June 6, 1941 in Providence, RI. And was an Elyria area resident since 1944. Bill was a Police Officer with the Elyria Police Department for 26 years, retiring with the rank of Captain in 1992. He was a member of A Fresh Wind Church in Amherst. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Bonnie (nee-Krugman); daughters, Alexandra Becker (Rob Biggart), Dawn (Bill) Resar, Jennifer Becker and Jeanine; sons, Jason (Kerri) Smith, Brenton Cameron and Bill (Nicole) Cameron; many grandchildren; great-grandson, Maxwell Cameron Biggart; sister-in-law, Sima Merick. He was preceded in death by his sister, Alexina Smith and brothers, Reginald and Donald Cameron. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Saturday December 14, 2019 at A Fresh Wind Church 1115 Milan Ave., Amherst, OH. 44001. Pastor Tim Holt will preside. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Burial will be private. No flowers please. Memorial contributions are requested to be made to the family to assist with medical expenses. Cremation by Lorain County Cremation Services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria, OH. 44035.
