IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wardell "Owin"
Gunn, Jr.
September 27, 1966 – February 24, 2025
Wardell Owin Gunn Jr., "Owin" to family and "OJ" to friends, passed away on February 24, 2025, in his home in Oberlin, Ohio. A vibrant maker and free spirit, Owin spent his time visioning, tinkering, and making somethings out of nothing to enrich others' lives. Owin was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 27, 1966, to Wardell Owin Gunn Sr. and Margaret Delores Blincoe Gunn. Growing up, he brought joy, adventure, and more than a little mischief into the lives of his parents and sisters, Adrienne Denise, Dana LeAnne, Kami Alexandra, and later, Taylor Alexa. Owin graduated from South Vigo High School in Terre Haute, Indiana, and was master trained and certified as a construction contractor and artist, founding and running Nroc Art. His many work projects—from home remediation to molding rocks for museum display and backyard landscapes to carving exotic barstools and walking canes from wood—took him all over the country, forging friendships and found family along the way. Owin is survived by his parents, sisters, and daughters, Kyra Ann, Pearl-Hannah Dillinger, and Madison Reese, and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be remembered always for his open heart, quick wit, and ready smile. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church 25801 Royalton Road in Columbia Station. Reverend Father Ed Holland, Pastor, will be the celebrant. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.laubenthalmercado.com. Arrangements entrusted to Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home in Elyria.
