Walter S. Szlempa 90, of Elyria passed away Saturday March 2, 2013 at The Wesleyan Village in Elyria following a long illness. He was born December 26, 1922 in South Amherst. Walter served with The U.S. Navy See Bee's in Okinawa, Japan. He was a shipping foreman with Stanadyne Steel Division (Moen) retiring in 1983. Walter was a member of St. Mary Church, a life member of the Elyria United Polish Club, life member of VFW Post 1079, AmVets Post 32, and Holy Cross Holy Name Society. He enjoyed travel to Las Vegas with his wife, and horse racing; he was an avid natural golfer, and an avid Cleveland sports fan. Survivors include a daughter; Barbara Sheller (Dennis) of Stillwater, OK., two sons; Gregory Slempa (Alicia) of Mt. Pleasant, SC., and John "Jack" Szlempa (Molly) of Elyria. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty four years; Anne M. (nee: Sabol) whom he married in 1947, his parents; Joseph and Mary (nee: Alexdrowicz) Szlempa, a sister, and two brothers.
