Walter J. Rybarcyk, 85, of Elyria passed away Wednesday at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following a brief illness. He was born April 28, 1926 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Walter worked at U.S. Steel in Lorain for 21 years, retiring from the pipe mill in 1991. A W.W. II Army veteran, he was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Elyria, a lifetime member of the former Holy Cross Catholic Church in Elyria, the United Steel Workers Local 1104, and the Elyria United Polish Club. He enjoyed woodworking and reading about military history. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary (nee-Dobrowski); daughters, Jean (David) Nejman of Dyer, IN. and Judith (David) Zakutny of Olathe, KS.; sons, Ronald Rybarcyk of Elyria and Dr. Lawrence (Joyce) Rybarcyk of Los Alamos, NM.; grandchildren, Eric, Jason, Kevin and Emily: nephew, James Davidson of Pittsburgh, PA..He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine Rybarcyk, brothers, Casimir, Raymond, Frank and Edward Rybarcyk and sisters, Florence TarnowskI, Priscilla Sevenski, Helen Bohoric and Irene Davidson. The family will receive friends Monday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. 440-322-4626. Closing prayers will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Agnes Church 611 Lake Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Albert Veigas, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria where members of V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.
