Walter J. Rader, 91, of Grafton passed away Wednesday February 17, 2016 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange following a brief illness. He was born October 4, 1924 in Elyria and was a lifelong Grafton resident. Walt worked as a carpenter for 35 years at the former Grafton Lumber Company, retiring in 1989. A W.W. II United States Army veteran, he was also a well known local farmer for many years and raised and trained Harness Racing horses. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Marie (Rausher); son, David (Robbie) Rader of Kingwood, TX.; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 5 brothers. The family will receive friends Sunday 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Monday February 22, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in the Funeral Home. The Rev. Chuck Behrens, Chaplain of the Hospice of the Western Reserve will Officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve 300 East 185th St. Cleveland, OH. 44119.
