Virginia M. Sillasen, age 95, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022, in Tampa, Florida after an extended chronic illness. Virginia was born on May 6, 1926 in Elyria, Ohio. Virginia is preceded in death by her first husband Joseph Salata; second husband Thomas Sillasen; son, Joseph Salata; her parents John and Mary Kolopos; her brother, Nicholas (Rosezella)Kolopos; her sister, Maryhelen (William) Claus; and brother-in-law, Wayne McClune. Virginia is survived by her sister Barbara McClune; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Salata; her children, James (Darla) Salata; Jeffrey (Shirley) Salata; Jolene (Jeffrey) LeRoy; John (Jean) Salata; her grandchildren, Charles (Beth Ann) Salata; Michael (Tammy) Salata; Stacee (Kyle) Harbeck; Marci (Chuck) Leonard; Cory Salata; Jeffrey Kirk Salata; Stephen (Abby) LeRoy; Christopher (Erin) LeRoy; Adam (Kelly) LeRoy; Stephanie (Dan) Tanner; Brian Salata; Gwen (Matthew) Salata-Keller; Jessica Salata; 24 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Virginia began an active lifestyle as a cheerleader and gymnast. At age 13 she performed at the 1939 New York World's Fair. She maintained her love of physical fitness and outdoor activities throughout her senior years through swimming, instructing water aerobics, biking, tennis, walking on the beach and catching blue crabs off the inlet at Hilton Head Island. Virginia enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and traveling. Virginia will always be remembered for her gregarious and fun-loving nature and her ability to provide others with a comfortable and relaxing environment in which to socialize and relax. She enjoyed music and dancing, playing cards and making people happy. Virginia was a woman of faith with a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and served on ministries in the church. Visitation is on Thursday, May 5 in the Weigand Room at St. Mary's Parish, 320 Middle Avenue in Elyria at 10:00a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. After the Mass, Virginia will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery at 7284 Lake Avenue, Elyria.
