Vera Janas, (nee-Dubena), 96, died peacefully at her home on April 10, 2018 after a full and wonderful life. With family at her side, she joined her husband Frank, who passed away in 2004. Brothers John, Carl and baby Alex also predeceased her. Vera was born September 28, 1921 in Cleveland and is survived by her daughter, Sally (Gary) Glaze; son, Thomas (Joanne) Janas; and her "treasures", grandchildren, David (Jena) Glaze, Amy (Craig) Kaltenbach and Matthew (Jenny) Janas, and great-grandchildren, Elena Kaltenbach, Grayson Glaze, Elliott Janas and Eva Janas. Although Vera took great pride in having worked the switchboard at the telephone company during W.W. II, being a Girl Scout leader and earning the friendship of those who she taught ceramics in the basement of her home, family was her greatest joy. She excelled at cooking for the family; however, when times were difficult she was at her best serving her recipe of sage advice, loving support and a helping hand. Vera's interests were diverse. She enjoyed gardening, puzzling, the Cavs and Dog the Bounty Hunter. As a Catholic and a member of St. Jude's Church, her faith in God gave her strength during her life and peace during her final days on earth. If kindness to animals helps one on their journey to the Hereafter, then Vera is traveling first class. Hungry animals were fed, the injured were treated and all were loved. The family will receive friends on Friday April 13, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Rev. Fr. Frank P. Kosem, pastor of St. Jude Church will Officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
