Venett S. Smith, (nee-Swiger), 58, of Elyria passed away Friday December 29, 2017 at University Hospitals Main Campus in Cleveland following a long illness. She was born November 27, 1959 in Pittsburgh, PA. and was a Grafton/Elyria resident for most of her life. Venett was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, formerly worked at the Elyria Wal-Mart, earned a degree in ornithology from Cornell University and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Randy; son, Benjamin (Chelsea) Smith; mother, Carol (George) Brinegar; step-parents, Leslie and Jim Nichols; sisters, Vivian (Chuck) Atkinson and Valerie Swiger; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Swiger and step-mother, Linda Swiger. The family will receive friends Saturday January 6, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Specialists 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria. The Rev. Mr. Patrick Humphrey will Officiate. Burial will be private.
