Thomas E. Tobin Jr. 79, of Elyria passed away Thursday December 6, 2018 at his home. He was born May 10, 1939 in Butte, MT. Thomas was a graduate of Butte High School, The University of Colorado, and had earned a Master's degree from Southern Nazarene University. He was a Civil Engineer/Land Surveyor and had worked in numerous municipalities over his career. In addition, he achieved being an Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers Fellow. Thomas was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and throughout his life was devoted to church work in Colorado and Oklahoma where he was deeply involved in the Education for Ministry program. He was very humble, and yet possessed strong personal convictions; his philosophies were; God, family, neighbor, and work. Thomas loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed hiking, fishing, and reading newspaper comics. Survivors include his wife of 55.951 years; Barbara B. (nee: Burrell), two daughters; Elizabeth M. Trimble (Michael) of Flower Mound, TX., Catherine L. Hopiard (Douglas) of LaGrange, OH, a son; Thomas "Alex" Tobin of Oklahoma. Additional survivors include grandchildren; Michael, Miranda, Courtney, Allyson, a sister; Mary H. Thornton (Gordon) Manhattan, KS., three brothers; John W. Tobin (Gail) of North Pole, AK., Robert C. Tobin of Butte, MT., Patrick J. Tobin (JoAnn) of Arvada, CO. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; Thomas E. Sr. and Helen (nee: Trask) Tobin, and a brother; Daniel J. Tobin. A Celebration of Thomas' life will be 10:00 AM Saturday December 22, 2018 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 300 Third St. Elyria, OH 44035. The Reverend June Hardy Dorsey will officiate. Burial will be private.
