Thomas P. Shuster

Thomas Patrick Shuster, 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at the Mill Manor Nursing Home in Vermilion. He was born in Elyria on November 23, 1947 to parents Walter J. and Mary Jane (nee: Smith). Thomas proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in Hanoi before enjoying a long career as a telecommunications installer. In his free time, he found great satisfaction in designing and building race cars from the ground up, taking pride in both the craftsmanship and the thrill of racing them. He also had a special place in his heart for animals and cherished the companionship of his beloved cats and dogs throughout his life.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sandra (nee: Feakins); sisters-in-law, Carol and Candy; brothers-in-law, Randy and Tim; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles (Shirl), Walter (Flo), James; sister-in-law, Christine.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria. Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick, pastor will officiate. Burial will take at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio at a later date. Memorial contributions in Thomas’ name can be sent to the Friendship APL 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035 or a charity of choice.
