Thomas Francis Barnes, age 57, of North Ridgeville and owner of NED's Seamless Gutters passed away at home surrounded by his family on January 14, 2023 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 24 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" (nee-Eckenfels); mother, Katherine Barnes (nee-Dowling); sister, Shelia (David) Smiddy; brothers, Anthony Barnes III, Terrence (Heather) Barnes, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Barnes Jr. Tom was born and raised in the north end of Toledo, where he still has many friends that knew him as "Woody" and "Ned". He graduated from Woodward High School in 1984. He lived and adventurous life- being a hunter, and all-around athlete, playing football, basketball, volleyball, softball and golf. He was a life member of the Commodore Club in Toledo and frequented the neighborhood bars of Paul K's and Jim & Lou's. Tom was proud of his Polish heritage. In Toledo he was actively involved in the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. After moving to North Ridgeville he became a member of the Elyria United Polish Club and served as their longest standing President-17 and half years. Tom had a huge heart and went out of his way countless times to help his friends and family. He was a comedian at heart and always tried to make us laugh with his one-liners. He was often heard saying "I'm here for a good time not a long time". Those of us who now have an empty space in our hearts would agree, but would still like his time on earth to have been longer. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 28, 2023 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services and burial will be private.
