Theresa Marie Wukie (Matus), 90, of Grafton, passed away peacefully at her home following a brief illness on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

Theresa was born, March 10, 1934, in her family home in Wakeman, Ohio to the late Paul and Mary (Molchan) Matus. She was one of eight children and was the last surviving member. Theresa graduated from Camden High School as class valedictorian and worked at the IRS in Cleveland prior to her marriage.

Theresa married the late Gene Wukie on February 5, 1955. They founded Wukie Furniture in Grafton, Ohio, and together raised nine children. She was known for her strong faith, love for family, kind heart, and zest for life. She especially enjoyed tending to her flowers, admiring her yard, watching the birds, and cheering on her children and grandchildren.

Theresa is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, of 52 years and her daughter, Joanna Wukie. Survivors include Diana (Rick) Fritz, John (Patty) Wukie, Brenda (Berry) Taylor, Sandy Koeth, Jim (Julie) Wukie, Shari (Kirk) Hirschfelder, Steve Wukie, Colleen (Jim) Scavuzzo, 26 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition, to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by brothers Marty, Steve, Paul, Edward, and Robert Matus, and sisters Mary Leslie and Irene Wohleber.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29 from 4-8 pm at Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 30 at 10 am at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Avenue, Elyria, OH. The Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick, Pastor and Father John P. Seabold will concelebrate. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Grafton. A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at St. Mary's Church Hall. In remembrance of Theresa's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Elyria Catholic High School (Memo: Wrestling Program).
