Theresa M. Alten, (nee-Gioffre), 78, of Elyria passed away Saturday at the Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness. She was born February 2, 1933 in Huron and was a Elyria resident for most of her life. Theresa was employed in the office at the Huron Cement Co., was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria, was a avid sports fan and was affectionately known as "Gramma T". Survivors include her daughter, Cathy (Scott) Perkins of Elyria; son, Kevin (Kathy) Alten of Cambridge, OH.; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 1984, sisters, Rose Caporini and Mary David, brothers, Pat and Frank Gioffre. The family will receive friends Tuesday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Closing prayers will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude Church 590 Poplar St., Elyria. The Rev. Frank P. Kosem, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Avon.
