Terry R. Smith, 74, of Elyria, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Elyria Hospital after a long illness surrounded by his loved ones. Born on May 3, 1951, to Robert and Elaine (née Holmes) Smith, Terry was a resident of Elyria, where he spent his entire life. He was a proud 1969 graduate of Elyria High School. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially boating, fishing, camping, and loved his time around the campfire. A devoted fan of Cleveland sports, Terry faithfully cheered on his hometown teams. Above all, he treasured time spent with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, love, and warmth that will be forever cherished by his family.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Deborah (née Johnson); daughter, Jackie (Mel) Rainey; son, Jeremy (Becky) Smith; sister, Denise Smith; brothers, Tim (Ginn) and Jeff (Nancy) Smith; grandchildren, Luke, Anna Beth, and Vivian Rainey, and Abby and Zach Smith; nephews, Alex and Spencer Smith; and niece, Tinsley Ryskoski.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026 at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria. A private burial will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions in Terry’s name can be sent to American Heart Association.
