Susan Basinger Zaleski passed away peacefully on July 18, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Susan was born in Elyria on September 20, 1947, to Norman and Rosemary Basinger. Susan was employed by the Lorain City Schools for 30 years as a third grade teacher, and was loved by every one of her students. Upon her retirement, she worked at the Hilliard Lakes Golf course with her husband, where she brought her special brand of cheer to all who played there. She also volunteered at the Hospitality Center and loved her relationship with the community she served. Susan was an active member for over a decade in the Lorain County AA community, and gave freely of her recovery to all the members of her group who asked for her help. Susan is survived by her husband Ron. They were married for 44 glorious years and were rarely ever apart. They traveled frequently, and loved their Caribbean vacations. Susan is also survived by her Mother-in-law Virginia Zaleski, her brother Scott Basinger, her sister-in-law Madelene Stevens, Brother-in-law Allan Zaleski and his wife Debbie, nieces and nephews Dawn, Julie, Scott Jr., Brooks, Alison and Matthew. Special thanks to her dedicated caregivers and the many special people who were there for her throughout her journey. We are forever grateful. There will be no visitation; however, a memorial mass will be held Wednesday, August1 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church in Elyria, Ohio, with a reception to follow in St. Mary's hall. Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick pastor, will be the Celebrant. In lieu of flowers , contributions should be made in her name to Pilgrim United Church, 523 East Broad St., Elyria, Ohio or to Hospitality Center, 244 3rd St., Elyria, Ohio.
