Sue Ann (Stuckey) Van Arsdale, 80, ended her earthly life and began her eternal life on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake. She was born May 11, 1946, in Wooster, Ohio to Robert E. and Linda I. (nee Karlen) Stuckey.
Sue grew up in Orrville, Ohio, and graduated from Orrville High School in 1964. She received a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Goshen College in Indiana in 1969.
She met her future husband on new teacher orientation day in the Olmsted Falls School District in 1969. She and Dave were married on August 1, 1970 in the Augsburg Lutheran Church in Orrville. Sue taught in Olmsted Falls, Midview, and Clearview schools. After retiring from teaching, she worked at Royal Oak Golf Club in Grafton.
Sue was a member of Eastern Star and the LaPorte Methodist Church, where she led the Prayer Shawl Ministry, Stephen Ministry and Women’s Bible Study. With Dave she also once served as MYF advisor.
She enjoyed needle craft, collecting, ballroom dancing and following her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sports activities. She loved her Lord, husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and host of friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law Donald H. and Eleanor L. (Robson) Van Arsdale, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, David R. Van Arsdale, three children: John (Michelene) Van Arsdale, Malinda Rich, and Cara (Ken) Babel, five grandchildren: Daniel (Hailey) Rich, Benjamin Babel, Virginia Rich, Madeline Babel, and Baylee Babel, and sister-in-law Barb (Bob) Keller.
Friends may greet the family at the Laporte United Methodist Church, 2071 Grafton Road, Elyria, on Saturday, July 11, from 10-12, followed by a home-going service at 12, burial in LaPorte Cemetery on Butternut Ridge.
The family wishes to thank UH EMH ER, UH St. John’s Medical Center, O’Neill’s Health Center, and Reserve Care Ames Family Hospice House for their loving care of Sue during her last weeks and the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home for their assistance.
