Stephen G. Myers, 54, of Elyria passed away Saturday October 15, 2011 at his home following a long battle with cancer. He was born March 27, 1957 in Oberlin and was a lifelong Elyria area resident. Steve was a member of the first graduating class at Elyria West High School in 1975, and graduated from Lorain County Community College with Associate Degree in Electronics. He was owner of Myers Transportation Group LLC, a freight brokerage business affiliated with UTI Transport Solutions. Previous employment includes an insurance agent with Humphrey & Cavagna Insurance for 13 years, a transformer design engineer at Norlake Mfg., and taught electronics adult education at LCCC and the Lorain County Joint Vocational School. He was an electronic technician at Meistergram Inc. in Cleveland and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as an Aircraft Control & Warning Radar Repairman. He worked at Cardi Lanes while in high school and Grafton Lanes while attending college. He was a softball coach at Huron High School for five years where the girls knew him as "Mr. Man". Steve was a Past Exalted Ruler and Honorary Life Member of Elyria Elks Lodge 465 where he headed several committees including Veterans Service and Drug Awareness, and was a 4 time ritual contest winner. He was awarded the BPO Elks 2001-2002 Veterans Service Volunteer of the Year for the State of Ohio. He was a 12 year Representative for the Elks at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky where her served on the Volunteer Advisory Board, and was a Past Chairman of the Board. He headed the Elks to the Organization of the year award at the Ohio Veterans Home in 1998. He and his family conducted monthly and seasonal parties in the Alzheimer Wing at OVH for over 10 years. He was a member of the Elyria Knights of Columbus Council 774, Elyria Eagles #431, and a life member at Elyria AMVETS Post 32. He was a past member of the Sandusky Elks, Huron Eagles, Huron AMVETS, and the Erie County Republican Central Committee. He was a past board member of Elyria Project CARE. He enjoyed sports, metal detecting and riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years, and won several tournaments in Ohio and Michigan. He won an Elyria City doubles tennis tournament as a youth, and was avis golfer. Survivors include his daughter Stephanie Myers of Huron; mother Regina Davies of Elyria; brother Eugene (Linda) Myers of Brunswick; sister Sharon (Pat) Mikalonis-Neville of Las Vegas, NV.; sister-in-law, Joanne Myers of LaGrange; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene, and his brother, CSM Thomas E. Myers. Private Burial took place at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. A Celebration of Life Gathering for Steve will be held on Friday November 4, 2011 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Elyria Knights of Columbus Hall 118 Kipling St., Elyria. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stephen Myers Trust c/o Lormet Federal Credit Union 250 East Broad St., Elyria which will be used for his daughter's college fund.
