Stephen E. Farkas, 98, of Elyria passed away Monday July 28, 2014 at the New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a long illness. He was born August 7, 1915 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Steve was the owner of the former Mayfair Bar in Elyria for many years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, enjoyed playing golf, was a Cleveland Indians Baseball fan and he and his late wife spent their winters in Florida and summers in Elyria. Survivors include his sister, Helen (John ) Spain of Vermilion; brother, Joseph (Ruth) Farkas of Amherst; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Cecelia in 1940, second wife, Elizabeth "Betty" in 1994 and sisters Mary DeBracy, Anne Chapla, Kay Mayerski and Elizabeth Rahrig. The family will receive friends on Thursday July 31, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Weigand Room of St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave. Elyria. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of the church. The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria. Memorial contributions can be made to the church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elyria 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria.
