Sophie S. McArtor, (nee-Skok), 89, of Elyria passed away Monday August 26, 2013 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange following a brief illness. She was born July 21, 1924 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Sophie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, the Alter and Rosary Society of the church, the Catholic Daughters of America, Elyria Women's Club, and a honorary member of the Elyria United Polish Club Ladies Auxillary. She also served as a reading aide at the Elyria Public Library since 1966 and was a volunteer at EMH Regional Medical Center. Survivors include her daughters, Christine McArtor (Tom Gallagher) of South Amherst, Maureen (Bill) Foss of Port Charlotte, FL., Colleen McArtor (Scott Thompson) of Belmont, MA., Kathleen (Daniel) Finelli of Solon, and Mary (Eric) Smith of Bloomington, IN.; son, Matthew (Janine) McArtor of Cincinnati. 12 grandchildren; sisters, Jeanne Walend of Elyria and Sally (Raymond) Hildebrandt of Grafton; sister-in-law, Jan Skok of Amherst. She was preceded in death her husband, Bernard "Bun" McArtor in 1998, sister, Florence Grezenda and brother, John Skok. There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday August 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. (Please meet at church). The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
