Obituary

Sophia Catherine Bedocs, (nee-Boron), 93, of Carlisle Twp. Passed away peacefully in the early morning of Friday November 11, 2011 at the Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center following a two day illness. On December 17, 1917, Sophia was born in Elyria, the third daughter of the late Martin and Katrina (nee-Misiasek) Boron. Mrs. Bedocs was a 1935 graduate of Elyria High School where she helped organize many class reunions. She graduated from Oberlin School of Commerce and worked for a time at the Social Security Administration. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria. Sophia proudly served her country in the United States Army, WAC Detachment during W.W. II. She achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. Decorations and Citations include the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, WAC Service Ribbon, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star. Upon discharge from the Army, Sophia worked for the Veteran's Administration in Elyria where she met her future husband, Ernest Bedocs who had come to the office with questions about his military life insurance. They were married February 15, 1947 at St. Agnes Church in Elyria. Sophia will be dearly missed by her family ; daughter and caregiver, Nita Marie Bedocs of Elyria, daughter, Nancy (Howard Feldenkris of Solon, and their children, Sara, Emily, Abby, Adam and David; son, Gene (Diane) Bedocs of Elyria and their children, Paul, Tracey, and Greg; one great-grandson, Sam Michael Bedocs; sisters, Antoinette Jablonski and Philomena Mittler of Elyria, Rosalee Anderson of Sidney, OH. And Caroline Hahn of Yakima, WA.. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 Years, Ernest in 2005, son, Ernest E. Bedocs Jr. in 2009 and brother, Frank Boron in 1996. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. 440-322-4626. Closing prayers will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria, where members of V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary School, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. Online condolences may be expressed at laubenthalmercado.com.
