Shelvie J. Crawford, 85, formerly of Elyria, died from complications of Alzheimer's disease on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at O'Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville. She was born on August 26, 1937 in Tazwell County, Virginia to the late King David and Edith Johnson Osborne. She was a graduate of Garden High School and worked at the Army Mutual Aid Association until meeting the love of her life, Kenneth E. Crawford, and moving to Elyria in 1966. They were married until his death in 2000. Shelvie worked at Northern Savings and Loan until her retirement. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church, loved traveling, gardening, and decorating. She will be remembered for her sweet nature and great sense of humor. Survivors include her daughters, Jennifer Marshall (David), Jacqueline Dillinger (Farley), and Cherie Crawford; grandchildren, Hannah Reid (Zeke), Joshua Laubenthal, Emily Laubenthal, Brace Dillinger, and Adam Bagi; great-grandchildren, Adeline Reid, Kinsleigh Laubenthal, and River Reid; brothers, Darry Osborne, Joe Osborne (Jean); sisters, Judy Osborne and Debbie Elswick. Shelvie is preceded in death by husbands, Jerry Hay and Kenneth E. Crawford; parents, and sisters, Sonja Minnick and Devada A. Mutter, and brother, Larry David Osborne. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 4 PM until the time of service at 5 PM at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Shelvie's memory to further research for Alzheimer's Disease or to O'Neill Healthcare Hospice.
