Saroja Krishnaswamy passed away at home in Grafton on the evening on 05 September 2014. She will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a caring, thoughtful soul who dedicated her boundless energy in service to family, friends, and community. Born on 26 October 1924 in India and a woman far ahead of her time, Saroja studied at Pachaiyappas College in Madras, graduated with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics, and was sought after for math tutorials for school children in Bombay. Known as Grandma by many family and friends and Mrs. Swamy by a myriad of people she touched through her work in Elyria, Saroja devoted many hours to supporting the community through volunteering with RSVP, knitting scarves for the Salvation Army, and supporting classrooms in Elyria Public Schools among others. Always willing to do anything asked of her - and most often doing things that were not asked of her, the impact of her gentle but determined loving spirit will long be felt. Saroja was preceded in death by her husband, K. Krishnaswamy. She is survived by immediate family - her daughter and son-in-law Indira and Sanjay Palekar; and grandchildren & great-grandchildren - Rakhee Palekar and Alex Melamud, Aanya Melamud, & Kirin Melamud; Sunita and Bastian Palekar Joergensen; and Nikhil and Laura Palekar - and by countless friends and family. A private Hindu service was held.
