Sandra Ruth Symonds (nee Blakeslee), 82 of Elyria passed away Thursday May 25, 2017 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born December 25, 1934 in Elyria. Sandra graduated in 1952 from LaGrange High School , and went on to the M.B. Johnson School of Nursing where she graduated in 1955. She worked at EMH as a Nursing Supervisor. Sandra was a member of Eastern Star Lyndon Chapter #361 , District 4 President of Eastern Star , Stephen Minister, St. Paul's Women's Guild and was very active with the Cleveland Eye Bank. She enjoyed making goose clothes, knitting, loved animals and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters Jennifer (Terry) Trakas of LaGrange, Amy (Tom) McCarthy of Marysville; grandchildren Tyler (Courtney) Trakas , Jared Trakas, Michael (Ashrae) McCarthy , Megan (Jarrod) Collins and Matthew McCarthy; great-grandchildren Benjamin and Liam McCarthy and Elizabeth Collins. She was preceded in death by her husbands Wesley Bauman and Ralph "Bud" Symonds; parents Frank and Ruth Blakeslee (nee Raesler). Family will receive friends 4-7PM Tuesday May 30,2017 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626, where Eastern Star services will be held at 7PM, and from 10AM until time of service at 11 AM Wednesday May 31, 2017 at Community of Faith UCC 9715 E. River Rd.
