Sandra "Sandy" Christian Kaperak (nee Bordy), of Elyria, Ohio passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 3, 2019. Sandra is survived by her devoted husband Robert and daughter Shondra, fur-kid Trixie, and attentive and caring sister Alexis (Bordy) Campbell as well as many nieces and nephews, particulary Jason Higgins and Jennifer (Higgins) Anderson with whom she was so close. She was born December 17, 1944 in Elyria and was preceded in death by her parents Alexander Bordy and Elizabeth Bordy (nee Barron), brothers Bill Bordy, Dick Bordy, and Alex Bordy, sister Elizabeth (Bordy) Kaniaris. She delighted in herb, vegetable, and flower gardening as well as relaxing days at the family lake cottage enjoying the beach and the birds. A creative love of culinary pursuits was a must! Sandra passionately devoted her life to being an advocate for the underdog and disenfranchised, both humans and animals, alike. She was an active member of the Teamsters ( one of her first in her union to have maternity benefits). She supported numerous organizations including the ACLU, various humane societies, the Quakers and the DNC. A political junkie, Sandy enthusiastically volunteered for the 2008 Obama presidential campaign ( and will churn in her urn if the Donald is re-elected). Sandy's frequent COPD events were made bearable for the family by the professional and passionate response of the Carlisle EMTs, Life Care professionals and the angelic care provided by the many nurses and doctors at EMH, especially in the MICU and SICU for which her family will be forever appreciative. Family will receive friends Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 11 AM until time of service at 12 Noon at the Rose Café (Lakeview Park - 1800 W. Erie Ave. Lorain, Ohio 44052). Rev. Dr. Janet Long will officiate.
