Ruth E. Johns, (nee-Richards), 103, formerly of Elyria passed away Friday May 25, 2018 at Amherst Manor Retirement Community following a brief illness. She was born April 19, 1915 in Elyria and resided with her daughter and son-in-law in South Amherst for 21 years before moving to Amherst Manor in 2011. She worked at the former M. O'Neil Company in Sheffield Center, J.C. Penny on Broad St. in Elyria, the G.C. Murphy Company in North Ridgeville, which she helped to set up and was there for the opening and also three movie theaters in Elyria, Capitol, Rivoli and the Lincoln. Survivors include her sons, Richard (Janet) Johns and Edward "Buzz" (Karin) Johns; daughter, Margaret (Willie) Frederick; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert S. Johns in 1985, great-grandson, Brandon S. Glass in 2007 parents, Charles and Cassie Richards and a brother, Paul E. Richards in 1998. The family will receive friends on Wednesday 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday May 31, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. (please meet at church). The Rev. Fr. Timothy O'Connor will be the Celebrant.
