Ruth Mae Fannon (nee: Goldsmith), 88, of Elyria, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025. She was born in Cedarville, West Virginia on December 21, 1936 to parents Hayward and Opal (nee: Childress) Goldsmith. Ruth was dearly loved by her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was an avid gardener where she grew her own vegetables. She enjoyed strawberry picking with her granddaughter and friends. Ruth was an avid cat lover, and couldn't say no to a stray.
She worked many years at Abex Corporation in accounting department until her retirement after 39 years of service. Ruth was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church where she attended every Sunday followed by a large home cooked meal. Those who knew her will miss visiting at her house and her generosity in serving food.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Fannon; sister, Edra Butcher; granddaughter, Brittany Newman. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene "Gene" Fannon in 2021; sisters, Susie Martin and Marie Childress; brothers, Lamont Childress and Eugene Goldsmith; grandson, Brandon Newman.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria. Reverend Chet Beetler, pastor of Christ Church in Elyria will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.
